Yacht Club Bracciano Est (Rome location) has been assigned to be the sailing club for the Fireball European Championship 2012 which will hold races during the week of July 21-27, 2012.

Sunday, July 22, 2012 - Opening ceremony: ten years after the edition of the Fireball World Championship held in 2001, the Yacht Club Bracciano Est (YCBE) host the Fireball European Championship . Speakers: Maja Suter – European Commodore and Armando Cattaneo YCBE President.

Monday, July 23, 2012 - The first race of the championship was canceled because of bad weather.

Tuesday, July 24, 2012 - Finally started the European Championship of Fireball class! At the start were present 102 of the 105 enrolled crews. Today winners are the Swiss Mermod Claude, Moser Ruedi (SUI 14799).

Wednesday, July 25, 2012 - Today’s regatta required very technical skills. The finishing line has been reached by bowline. Today leaders are Matt Burge and Richard Wagstaff (GBR 15084). Watch the interview to Matt here!

Friday, July 27, 2012 - And the winners are ... Matt Burge and Richard Wagstaff, GBR 15084 from Great Britain! Congratulations from Fireball Live community!

The last race of the championship was canceled because of bad wind.

 

 

Rome, July 28, 2012 - Matt Burge, helmsman and Richard Wagstaff , crew member of the Pool Yatch Club in Dorset (UK) won the European Championship Fireball 2012 after a long and intense week of regatta competitions which started on July 21 at Trevignano Romano (Bracciano's Lake) at the Yatch Club Bracciano East. One hundred and sixteen teams participated coming from eleven different countries.

 

The British team already won a National title in 2009 and World title in 2010 and with this last European title they attained their goals by keeping steadily in the race among the front runners.

 

Second place was won by another British team lead by Christian Birrell - Sam Brearey, current World Champions, reaffirming the British leadership by gaining five of the ten top positions. To everybody' surprise, the Czech team placed at third position in the race with the duo Martin Kubovy - Romn Rocek accompanied by four Czech teams in the top ten.
